Gold gloves...

Yesterday the 9 AL gold glove winners were announced, with the NL's coming today. They seem to be a perennial thorny issue, which is probably mainly because all the stats used to judge defensive prowess are lacking in some way. This, combined with the fact that the managers that vote are not statisticians, don't get to see much of these players in action and are often distracted by offensive production means that you get very weird results.

I guess what I'm saying is keep the award, it's good for the players to compete and get recognition for their play, but don't try to make out that the winner is the best defensive player, because it's not. Call it Positional MVP or something..
